240kg hashish seized in major Excise Operation in Swabi
PESHAWAR, Sep 29 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has seized 240 kilograms of high-quality hashish in a major counter-narcotics operation in Swabi, foiling an attempt to transport a large consignment of narcotics.
The operation was conducted under the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and in line with the directives issued by Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan, with Excise Counter-Narcotics teams continuing targeted operations against drug trafficking across the province.
According to details received from the Excise Department, the operation was launched on a tip-off received by Excise and Taxation Officer Counter Narcotics Operations Majid Khan.
Special teams were deployed under the supervision of SHO Excise Police Station Swabi Faisal Khan.
Excise officials said that during a late-night checking operation near Jamalabad, Swabi, personnel signalled a suspicious vehicle to stop.
The driver, however, attempted to flee at high speed. During the ensuing pursuit, the vehicle rammed into Excise squad vehicles, causing damage to the government vehicles.
The Excise team subsequently managed to intercept and take control of the vehicle. A search of vehicle registration number BTD-966 resulted in the recovery of 240,000 grams (240 kilograms) of high-quality hashish.
According to the received details, persons travelling in the vehicle abandoned the vehicle and fled under cover of darkness. Efforts are under way to apprehend them.
A case has been registered at Excise Police Station Swabi, while further investigation and legal proceedings are under way.
The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department said its counter-narcotics operations would continue across the province without interruption, with legal action being taken against those involved in the smuggling, transportation and sale of narcotics. APP/aqk
