SARGODHA, Dec 10 (APP):The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Sargodha has launched the third phase of opening mobile wallet accounts for its beneficiaries in Sargodha district, with a target of facilitating 200,000 women. So far, 22,000 registered beneficiaries have received SIMs under the mobile wallet initiative of the BISP.
This was stated by Deputy Director BISP Malik Safdar Awan while talking to APP on Tuesday.
He said the program was being implemented in collaboration with three major telecom operators—Ufone, Telenor, and Zong—following the directives of the President of Pakistan, who serves as the Chief Patron of BISP.
Under this phase, mobile wallet accounts are being opened for 200,000 registered beneficiaries across the district, the deputy director added.
Awan stated that the digital accounts would enable women to withdraw their stipends in a dignified manner from any telecom agent. Beneficiaries will also be able to use these accounts to pay electricity bills and transfer funds, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of promoting a “cashless economy.”
He further said the account-opening drive began on Monday, and more than 6,000 accounts were successfully opened within the first three days.
The campaign will continue for one month to complete the target of onboarding all 200,000 beneficiaries onto the digital payment system, he added.
