14th anniversary of Giyari Sector tragedy being observed today

ISLAMABAD, Apr 07 (APP): The 14th anniversary of the Giyari Sector tragedy is being observed today.
On this day in 2012, a tragic and heart-wrenching incident occurred at the Siachen Front, when a massive avalanche struck a position of the Pakistan Army, burying soldiers dedicated to the defense of the homeland.
In this devastating incident, the Battalion Headquarters was completely buried under snow, marking one of the most sorrowful moments in the nation’s history. 129 brave son of the soil present at the Battalion Headquarters embraced martyrdom in the incident.
The impact of this tragedy was so severe that even foreign rescue teams declared the mission impossible.
Driven by patriotism, the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers took on the responsibility of carrying out the rescue operation. Through the tireless efforts and courage of its officers and soldiers, this extremely difficult mission was successfully completed.
In memory of the martyrs of the Giyari tragedy, Yadgar-e-Shuhada was also constructed at the Siachen Front.
Today, the entire nation is paying tribute to the martyrs of the Giyari Sector tragedy. The great sacrifice of the martyrs of Giyari will always be remembered in the history of Pakistan.
