Shafqat presents PAGE Hero-2019 award to ARC Pakistan’s literacy mobilizer

ISLAMABAD, April 3 (APP):Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood Wednesday presented the PAGE Hero 2019 award to literacy mobilize of ARC Pakistan Naheed Bibi in recognition of her services for promotion of education in remote areas of the country.
Addressing a national seminar on girls’ education here, he said Naheed Bibi is a true example and a constant source of inspiration for other women who are working in most remote areas of Pakistan to promote better educational attainments.
He said women were playing a proactive role by working shoulder to shoulder with men in every field of life, said a news release.
Shafqat Mahmood highlighted importance of girl’s education in national development, saying that it was pre-requisite to country’s economic development.
ARC Pakistan is one of the PAGE Alliance Member and running the country’s biggest programme to enroll One Million Out-of-School Children (OOSC) in schools.
The program Educate A Child (EAC); a global initiative of Education Above All (EAA) is being implemented across 55 districts in Pakistan in close collaboration with Government of Pakistan through Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training.
The seminar was attended by over 150 representatives including from Ministry for Education and Professional Training, Planning Commission and PAGE Alliance members across four provinces of Pakistan.
Chairman PAGE Dr Tariq H Cheema,who is also the Country Representative of ARC Pakistan, said only 39 percent of rural girls attended secondary school. He said girls’ education in rural areas could be promoted through effective public-private partnerships.
