13 die in Mardan explosion, 4 suicide bombers killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Sept 2 (APP): At least 13 persons died and 49 others injured in a terrorist attack at District Courts in Mardan while four suicide bombers were killed by security forces at Christian Colony Peshawar on Friday.

In the first incident, the security forces foiled a terrorists attack on Christian Colony Warsak in Peshawar by killing four suicide bombers during an exchange of firing on the spot.

According to ISPR, four suicide bombers with arms and ammo entered Christian colony Warsak in Peshawar after hitting a security guard at 0550 hours on Friday morning.

The Security Forces promptly responded and killed all the terrorists.

Police said a civilian identified as Shomail was also killed and two security guards of Wapda Nadeem, Kud Ali and constable of Elite Force, Sajjad Khan sustained injuries during the cross fire.

Few hours of the assault, the terrorist attacked District Courts Mardan by exploding his explosive vest and killed 13 people including three policemen and three lawyers and injuring 49 others.

District Police officer Mardan, Faisal Shahzad while talking to journalists confirmed that attack was a suicide in which 13 people were martyred and injured 49 others.

He said the attacker was wearing a suicide vest with about 6-8 kilograms of explosive and its target was apparently the district courts located on Bank Road.

The DPO said constable Junaid Khan who was martyred in the attack, spotted the bomber at the entry gate and fired at him, as a result the militant detonated his explosive vest at the main gate of district courts.

The massacre could have been in large scale had the bomber not intercepted by the policeman in the entry gate, the DPO explained.

Provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani told reporters that they attacked with hand grenade and then his suicide vest detonated which caused the casualties.

The deceased identified are Police Constables Azam Khan, Ishtaiq Khan and Junaid Khan, lawyers Yousaf Bacha, Inayat Ali and Said Akbar, civilians Muhammad Ayaz, Akhtar Munir, Muhammad Ismail, Khalid Khan and Badr Munir.

The injured identified are police constables are Dilawar, Zafar, Asad Zia, Anwaarullah Khan (ASI), lawyers Naeem, Aziz, Fawad, Imran, Ajmal, Yaqoob and Muhammad Nawaz among 49 wounded.

The police and security forces cordoned off the area and started investigation. The injured were immediately shifted to Mardan Medical Complex and critically injured to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where emergency was enforced.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra here Friday strongly denounced terrorists attack on Christians Colony Warsak Road and a suicide blast at Mardan district courts.

In his statement, the Governor expressed grief and sarrow over loss of precious lives and injuries to the people, He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and said government equally shares their grief and sorrow at this difficult time.

The Governor said that perpetrators and facilitators involved in these heinous acts would be brought before the court of justice. He said the entire nation stands united against such
anti-human elements.

The Governor reiterated that action initiated against the menace of terrorism would continue till elimination of the last terrorist. He also directed the hospital authorities to provide best possible health cover to the injured.
