45 killed, over 75 injured in Parachinar market twin blasts

PARACHINAR, June 23 (APP): At least 45 persons killed and over
75 injured in twin bomb blasts that ripped through the crowded Tori
Market here where people were busy in purchasing Iftar items Friday afternoon.
A Political Administration official told APP that the first blast
occurred in Tori Market and as the people gathered there to rescue the injured from the rubble of the shops, the second blast ripped through
the same place causing massive casualties and damage to property.
The intensity of the second blast was far greater than the first
one as its bang was heard miles away, which created panic among the
people.
According to initial reports, some 18 persons were killed and
over 100 injured, many of them seriously and some of them later
expired in hospitals raising the death toll to around 45.
Emergency was declared in hospitals, including the Kurram Agency’s
hospital, where the injured were shifted.
The security forces rushed to the blast site and cordoned off the
area and started search operation.
Member National Assembly from Parachinar Sajid Tori said that the
critical injured would be shifted to Peshawar.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations, two military
helicopters were sent to Parachinar to evacuate the critically wounded
to Peshawar.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, in a statement,
condemned the blast and prayed for early recovery of the injured and
eternal peace for the souls of those killed.
