PESHAWAR, Jun 02 (APP):A preliminary coordination meeting was held under the chair of Muhammad Junaid Dayar, Director at the Directorate of Information & Human Resource Development & Management (I&HRD&M) to deliberate on a proposed technical assistance initiative under the theme, empowering women for peace and environmental justice in Swat.
The initiative aims to provide strategic support to the department through December 2026, with a particular focus on strengthening institutional communication, community outreach, and public engagement mechanisms.
The meeting brought together relevant stakeholders to discuss avenues for fostering inclusive environmental governance and enhancing the role of women as catalysts for peacebuilding, climate resilience, and sustainable natural resource management in Swat.
Participants underscored the importance of empowering local communities, particularly women, to actively contribute to environmental conservation efforts and community-led development initiatives.
Under the proposed technical assistance framework, the department will be supported through the provision of a dedicated communication officer, alongside a series of specialized capacity-building trainings for departmental officials. These trainings will focus on community outreach strategies, public engagement methodologies, effective communication skills, stakeholder coordination, and citizen-centric service delivery.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the department’s institutional outreach capabilities, improve information dissemination, and promote meaningful dialogue between government institutions and local communities. By enhancing communication channels and community participation, the project seeks to foster greater public trust, environmental awareness, and collaborative action for sustainable development.
Participants said that environmental justice and peace are deeply interconnected, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions such as Swat, where community ownership, social cohesion, and environmental stewardship play a critical role in safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
The proposed intervention will therefore contribute not only to institutional strengthening but also to building more resilient and environmentally conscious communities.
It was agreed during the meeting that a follow-up session will be convened with representatives of the Climate Change Directorate & Gender and Development (CDE&GAD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Mr. Latif Ur Rehman Spokesperson CCFEWD  to finalize the project modalities, implementation framework, and coordination mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing inclusive environmental governance, strengthening community-government partnerships, and promoting the vital role of women in fostering peace, environmental justice, and sustainable development across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
