Seized peregrine falcon released into natural habitat

The Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday released a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), earlier confiscated at the Motorway Toll Plaza in Peshawar, into its natural habitat.

PESHAWAR, Oct 08 (APP): The Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday released a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), earlier confiscated at the Motorway Toll Plaza in Peshawar, into its natural habitat.
The rare wild bird was seized from a vehicle bearing registration number BSJ-444 while it was being illegally transported towards Karachi.
The falcon, measuring approximately 13 × 12.5, was found fit for release following a necessary examination and completion of official formalities, said Mrs. Manahil Wahab, DFO Wildlife Peshawar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Manahil said that the Peshawar Wildlife Division had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against the illegal capture, possession and transportation of protected wildlife.
She said the department would ensure strict enforcement of the policy under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife & Biodiversity Act, 2015.
Other officials present on the occasion included Mrs. Roobina, DFO Wildlife Extension, and Aamir Ali, Range Officer Wildlife Peshawar.
