PESHAWAR, Jun 19 (APP):The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated PKR 8.4 billion for the Education Sector Endowment Fund (ESEF) and the Free Textbooks Programme in the fiscal year 2026–27, reaffirming its commitment to providing accessible and equitable education across the province.
According to budget 2026-27 on Friday, the ESEF and Free Textbooks Programme play a vital role in removing financial barriers to education, particularly for students from low-income families. The initiative ensures the free distribution of textbooks in public schools, helping students access essential learning materials without additional costs.
The allocation has been adjusted from PKR 9.1 billion in FY 2025–26 to PKR 8.4 billion in FY 2026–27. Despite the reduction, the government stated that the funding level remains sufficient to support educational institutions and maintain free schooling at the primary and secondary levels.
The CM in his budget speech said, the continued investment reflects the government’s focus on strengthening educational quality and ensuring that every child has an opportunity to receive an education regardless of financial circumstances
