PESHAWAR, Aug 08 (APP): A Quran recitation and prayer ceremony was held to pay tribute to a police constable, Riaz ud Din who was martyred while performing his duty during a suicide attack on Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
Police officials, colleagues, relatives and people from different walks of life attended the ceremony and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Department, Ansar Khilji was chief guest on the occasion.
The ceremony was also attended by Abdul Salam Khalid, Director Public Relations KP Police, Fayyaz Khan, SP Security Mardan Division, President PPC, M. Riaz, Senior Journalist, Shahmin Shahid and President Khyber Union of Journalist (KhUJ), Kashif-ud-Din Syed.
It merits an insertion here that Police Constable, Riaz ud Din rendered his life for saving the lives of more than 200 newsmen by preventing a suicide bomber to enter into the PPC premises in December 2009.
Speakers on the occasion paid rich tribute to the martyred constable for his bravery, commitment and sacrifice in the line of duty.
The speakers said the sacrifices rendered by police personnel in the fight against terrorism would always be remembered, adding that the nation stood with the families of those who had laid down their lives for the protection of the people and restoration of peace.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and other participants recalled the incident of December 2009 and appreciated the courage and presence of mind demonstrated by Constable Riaz ud Din. They said his timely action prevented the suicide bomber from reaching the premises of the press club and saved the lives of a large number of journalists and other people present there.
They said Riaz ud Din performed his duty with exceptional courage at a time when the province was facing serious security challenges and terrorist attacks. His sacrifice, they added, reflected the commitment of the police force to protect the lives and property of citizens without caring for their own safety.
The participants also paid tribute to the police personnel and other security officials who had sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
They said the sacrifices of the martyrs had played an important role in maintaining peace and protecting the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the menace of terrorism.
The speakers stressed the need to keep alive the memories and sacrifices of martyrs and to educate younger generations about the courage and dedication of those who gave their lives for the safety of others.
They also expressed solidarity with the family of Constable Riaz ud Din and prayed for patience for the bereaved family and eternal peace for the departed soul.
The ceremony concluded with collective prayers for the martyred constable, other victims of terrorism and the peace and stability of the country.
