Prof Dr Sarzameen assumes charge as acting VC UAP

University of Agriculture Peshawar’s (UAP) Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Sarzameen Khan, has assumed charge as Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.

PESHAWAR, Apr 21 (APP): University of Agriculture Peshawar’s (UAP) Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Sarzameen Khan, has assumed charge as Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.
Prof Dr Sarzameen Khan has previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences and Chairman of the Department of Poultry Science.
He is regarded as a senior academic and administrator with significant contributions in teaching, research, and institutional management.
The faculty and staff of the university welcomed his appointment and expressed optimism that under his leadership, the university would achieve further progress in academic and research fields.
Currently serving as Professor of Livestock Management, he is a distinguished researcher in animal and poultry sciences.
He also heads the Avian Disease Diagnostic and Research Laboratory and serves as a visiting expert with the Wildlife Department, Government of Pakistan (Avian Section). Additionally, he leads the Biosecurity Expert Panel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
With nearly 29 years of experience, including 12 years in administrative leadership, Prof Khan’s key research areas include poultry production, alternative protein sources, avian diseases, biosecurity, animal breeding, and environmentally sustainable livestock systems.
He holds a DVM degree from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and completed his MSc (Hons) and PhD in Animal Sciences from University of Agriculture, Peshawar.
He also completed postdoctoral research at University of Tsukuba and the University of Minnesota, including a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship in the United States.
During his academic career, he has supervised 20 PhD and over 150 MSc students, with more than 120 research publications, including 94 in impact factor journals.
He has authored several books and practical manuals in livestock and poultry sciences.
Prof Khan has developed six patents currently under registration with the IPO Karachi and completed 15 research projects.
Recently, with financial support from the Pakistan Science Foundation and in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, he contributed to the development of a local vaccine against the Infectious Bronchitis Virus in poultry, prepared at the Veterinary Research Institute, Peshawar and successfully tested in initial trials.
His notable innovation includes an Organic Mycotoxins Detoxifier, currently under registration, which is expected to help safeguard exports and improve the safety of meat, milk, and eggs by eliminating harmful residues.
He has received several prestigious awards, including the PCST Productive Scientist Award (2014), HEC Best University Teacher Award (2015), and the Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018).
Prof Khan has introduced key initiatives in the poultry and livestock sectors, including artificial insemination technology in broiler breeder farms in Pakistan, biogas energy models for poultry farms, promotion of poultry manure as biofertilizer, and research on insect protein as an alternative feed.
He has established international research collaborations with institutions in China, the United States, Turkey, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and Japan, and has also worked extensively with national research organizations.
Expressing gratitude to the provincial government, Prof Dr Sarzameen Khan said his academic and research efforts are aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the livestock sector in the country.
