The Police Martyrs’ Day was observed in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday with a ceremony honouring martyred police personnel, during which senior civil and military officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the families of martyrs and continuing the fight against terrorism.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 05 (APP): The Police Martyrs’ Day was observed in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday with a ceremony honouring martyred police personnel, during which senior civil and military officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the families of martyrs and continuing the fight against terrorism.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghulam Mubashir Maken and District Police Officer (DPO) Ziauddin Ahmed laid a floral wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines and offered prayers for the personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The ceremony was attended by DSF Commander Brig. Rizwanul Haq, Deputy Commissioner Hikmatullah Wazir, senior officers of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, police officials, civil society representatives, police veterans and families of martyred personnel.
Addressing the gathering, RPO Ghulam Mubashir Maken said Dera Range had lost 377 police personnel in the line of duty, while 359 others had sustained serious injuries. He said the sacrifices of police, the armed forces, other security agencies and civilians had played a key role in restoring peace and stability, and assured the families of martyrs of the department’s continued support.
The RPO also distributed appointment letters to children of martyred police personnel who had been recruited as assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), saying the initiative reflected the police department’s commitment to the welfare of martyrs’ families.
DPO Ziauddin Ahmed said 261 police personnel from Dera Ismail Khan had embraced martyrdom while 225 others had been injured in the line of duty during operations to maintain law and order and combat terrorism.
He said the sacrifices had strengthened the resolve of the force and described the families of martyrs as the department’s greatest source of pride.
Brig. Rizwanul Haq paid tribute to police personnel, members of the security forces and officers injured in the line of duty, saying the state’s campaign against terrorism would continue until militancy was eliminated.
Children of martyred police personnel delivered speeches during the ceremony, while students from educational institutions presented tableaus highlighting patriotism, peace and the sacrifices made by security personnel.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the martyrs and a renewed pledge to continue efforts for peace and public safety.
