Police foil arms smuggling bid

KOHAT, May 6 (APP):The police  seized a cache of illegal weapons and arrested a suspect during a checkpoint operation, the official sources said on Wednesday.

A police stopped a man identified as Muhammad Bashir during routine checks in the district, according to the police.

A search  led to the recovery of a Kalashnikov rifle, four magazines of 7.62mm ammunition, and five .30-calibre pistols along with both fixed and spare chargers, they added.

The suspect, a resident of Mir Alam Manjiwala village, was taken into custody at the scene.

The police said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway, adding that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of illegal arms in the area.
