PHC seeks explanation over lack of healthcare facilities in Upper South Waziristan

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sought response from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Health Department and relevant authorities regarding the lack of a District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital and inadequate healthcare facilities in Upper South Waziristan.

PESHAWAR, Jun 04 (APP):The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sought response from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Health Department and relevant authorities regarding the lack of a District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital and inadequate healthcare facilities in Upper South Waziristan.
The petition was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Inamullah Khan.
During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Sajjad Mehsud, argued that despite Upper South Waziristan being granted the status of a district, a DHQ Hospital has yet to be established there.
He informed the court that the existing health centers in the district lack modern and basic medical facilities, causing significant hardships for the local population.
According to the petitioner, the absence of a DHQ Hospital has also deprived the district of post-mortem and medico-legal services, forcing patients to travel to other districts for medical treatment.
The petition requested the court to direct the provincial government and the Health Department to establish a DHQ Hospital in Upper South Waziristan, appoint doctors and medical staff and ensure the provision of essential healthcare services.
After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to the provincial government, the Health Department and other concerned parties, directing them to submit detailed replies at the next hearing.
