PESHAWAR, Apr 30 (APP):A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday challenging the suspension of the Senate by-election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Senate candidate Irfan Saleem has named the Election Commission, MPA Jalal Khan and Murad Saeed as respondents in the petition.
According to the petition, the Senate seat became vacant following the disqualification of Murad Saeed. Under Article 224(5) of the Constitution, the by-election must be held within 30 days.
The petitioner stated that the by-election was suspended on April 21 on the request of Jalal Khan, while Murad Saeed did not raise any objection to the decision.
The petitioner has requested the court to declare the April 21 notification null and void and to order the Election Commission to conduct the Senate by-election.
The case is currently under hearing in the Peshawar High Court.
