Peshawar plans deployment of 12,000 security personnel for Muharram

PESHAWAR, Jun 16 (APP):Authorities in Peshawar have finalized a comprehensive security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram, with approximately 12,000 police officers and personnel deployed to ensure the safety of processions and religious gatherings across the city.
According to Peshawar Police on Tuesday, the security arrangements involve the joint deployment of multiple units, including the Rapid Response Force (RRF), Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Quick Response Force (QRF), Women Police, Traffic Police, Bomb Disposal Unit, Ababeel Squad, City Patrolling Force and District Special Branch (DSB).
As part of the security measures, all Imambargahs, religious gatherings and procession routes will undergo continuous inspection and sweeping operations by the Bomb Disposal Unit and sniffer dog teams.
The Safe City Peshawar Project will provide real-time monitoring throughout the city, while Command and Control Centers have been activated to oversee security operations.
CCTV cameras installed at Imambargahs, procession routes and other sensitive locations will be used for round-the-clock surveillance.
Security at all entry and exit points of the city has been further strengthened, with enhanced checking procedures in place. Intelligence-based search and strike operations are also continuing across the district to prevent any potential security threats.
Mourning processions will be protected through a three-layer security system, with rooftop gun posts and additional security personnel deployed along key routes.
To ensure smooth traffic flow during Muharram, more than 1,000 traffic police officers have been assigned traffic management duties.
The authorities stated that these extensive measures are aimed at maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of citizens during the holy month of Muharram.
