PESCO recovers Rs 7.38 mln, takes action against 27 power thieves in Mandhran

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 10 (APP):The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) recovered Rs 7. 38 million in outstanding dues and initiated action against 27 suspected electricity thieves in its Mandhran subdivision during the last month.

The operation was conducted on the directions of PESCO Dera Circle Superintending Engineer Hizbullah Khan Mehsud and under the supervision of Rural Division Executive Engineer Muaz Ahmed. The team, led by Mandhran Subdivision SDO Engineer Irfanullah and Line Superintendent Sajjad Ahmed Marwat, carried out a campaign against illegal connections and electricity theft.

Letters seeking registration of cases against 27 suspected power thieves were sent to the Shorkot and Cantt police stations, while cases against eight suspects were subsequently registered, the officials informed here on Monday.

The PESCO team also removed four low-tension lines being used for electricity theft and two 50-kVA transformers. The power supply to a 100-kVA transformer was also disconnected after electricity theft was detected.

The subdivision reduced its line losses from 72.9 per cent to 70.4pc, recording a reduction of 2.55 percentage points during the month.

Irfanullah said the campaign against electricity theft and illegal connections would continue without discrimination. He said power theft caused losses to the national exchequer, increased line losses and adversely affected the electricity supply system.

He said the measures taken during July to curb electricity theft, reduce line losses and recover outstanding dues had yielded positive results.
