PESCO installs ABC cables on 18 feeders in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Oct 07 (APP):Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has installed Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) on 18 feeders in Peshawar and adjoining areas to curb electricity theft, reduce faults and improve the reliability of power supply.
PESCO Chief Akhtar Hameed Khan said on Wednesday that ABC cables had been installed on six feeders in Peshawar, eight in Charsadda and four in Shabqadar.
The PESCO chief in a statement said ABC cables were specially designed insulated wires covered with a protective sheath, making electricity theft difficult while also significantly reducing the risk of electric shocks.
He said the cables had been installed particularly in areas where electricity theft was reported to be high, adding that the initiative would help reduce power theft and ultimately contribute to ending load-shedding.
Akhtar Hameed Khan said the strong and durable cables would also reduce the frequency of faults during rain and strong winds, thereby improving the stability of the power distribution system.
The installation of ABC cables would help address problems such as overloading and tripping and prevent accidents caused by exposed electrical wires.
He said work on another eight feeders was in its final stages in Peshawar, adding that the installation of ABC cables would subsequently be extended to other cities across the PESCO region.
