PESCO disconnects power supply to 14 high-loss transformers in Mardan

PESHAWAR, Nov 03 (APP):Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has disconnected electricity supply to 14 high-loss transformers in Mardan Circle over non-payment of outstanding dues and power theft.
On the directives of PESCO Chief Akhtar Hameed Khan, the company’s teams are continuing operations against high-loss transformers to recover outstanding dues and curb electricity theft.
The Mardan Circle team on Tuesday disconnected 13 transformers over non-payment of more than Rs8.8 million in long-standing dues.
It also disconnected another transformer after detecting widespread power theft, where all consumers were using electricity through illegal direct connections (kunda).
PESCO said it was also engaging consumers through open courts to encourage payment of outstanding bills. Electricity supply to disconnected transformers would be restored once consumers cleared their pending dues.
