The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert to all district administrations following a forecast of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds across various parts of the province from August 29 to September 5.

PESHAWAR, Aug 28 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert to all district administrations following a forecast of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds across various parts of the province from August 29 to September 5.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Kohistan, while Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber and Mohmand may also receive rainfall during the period.
From September 1 to 4, rainfall is also expected in Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and North and South Waziristan districts.
The PDMA warned of a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas of upper districts due to heavy rainfall. Urban flooding may also occur in low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi from August 31 to September 5.
Strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, electricity poles, billboards and standing crops, the spokesperson said, adding that district administrations and relevant departments had been directed to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant.
Tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel in view of the weather conditions and refrain from trekking, hiking and camping during heavy rainfall.
The public has also been urged to stay away from rivers, streams and rainwater channels and avoid crossing waterlogged roads. People have been advised to remain in safe places during thunderstorms and strong winds.
