PESHAWAR, Jun 29 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert regarding the first spell of monsoon rains expected across Khyber Pakhtunkhwan from July 1 to July 5.
According to the PDMA, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is predicted in most districts of the province.
The authority warned of possible landslides in upper districts and flash flooding in local streams and waterways during the forecast period. There is also a risk of urban flooding in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swat and Abbottabad.
PDMA has directed district administrations to complete precautionary arrangements in advance and ensure readiness to respond to any emergency situation. According to the PDMA spokesperson, the Emergency Operation Centre remains fully operational, and the public can report any emergency or untoward incident by calling 1700.
Rescue teams, machinery and emergency services have also been instructed to remain on high alert throughout the period.
The authority further cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures, solar panels and standing crops.
Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers and seasonal streams. Farmers and livestock owners were urged to take precautionary measures to protect crops and animals.
