Monsoon preparedness underway as DC Abbottabad inspects drains, water channels and cleanliness operations

ABBOTTABAD, Jun 20 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad, Sarmad Saleem Akram here on Saturday visited various locations along Link Road and reviewed natural water channels, drains, encroachments and drainage arrangements as part of the provincial government’s Good Governance Roadmap and District Service Delivery initiative.
During the visit, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad Afrasiab Zubair Hundal and Additional Assistant Commissioner Osama Khan, the Deputy Commissioner inspected natural watercourses, encroachments on drains, sewerage issues, and the overall drainage system.
Officials from the Technical Team of TMA Abbottabad and the Tehsil Revenue Staff briefed him on the current condition of drains, identification of encroachments, ongoing cleaning operations, and measures being taken to improve water flow.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to take immediate and effective steps to remove obstacles in water channels, address sewerage issues, and ensure thorough cleaning of drains to protect residents from potential flash floods and urban flooding during the upcoming monsoon season.
He also instructed TMA and Revenue officials to continuously monitor choke points, prioritize the restoration of natural watercourses, and complete the identification of encroachments to maintain an efficient drainage system.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the district administration, sanitation workers of the Local Government Department continued extensive cleaning operations in Banda Qazi, Jhangi, and Baldheri areas, clearing drains and removing accumulated waste to improve sanitation and water flow.
Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram said the district administration was working in close coordination with all relevant departments to safeguard lives and property, improve drainage infrastructure, and eliminate encroachments, adding that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated. He also urged citizens to support the cleanliness campaign by disposing of waste only at designated locations and in waste bins.
