KOHAT, Mar 7 (APP):: The district authorities in Kohat district have finalized a contingency plan to combat potential flooding risks amid ongoing monsoon conditions.
A meeting to review and discuss necessary measures was chaired by Commissioner Kohat Division, Syed Motasim Billah Shah, and attended by the Additional.
Deputy Commissioner, Syed Meher Ali Shah, and officials of the district administration and police.
Participants reviewed the evolving monsoon situation and riverine flood risks, agreeing on a series of preventive measures to mitigate potential damage.
Officials were directed to identify vulnerable and flood-prone areas, as well as the buildings, and take timely corrective action. The meeting stressed strengthening early warning systems and improving coordination among the relevant departments.
The authorities also ordered the removal of encroachments from the water channels to ensure the smooth flow of water. Community engagement was highlighted with instructions to involve religious seminaries and Ulema and to form the grassroots-level committees to boost awareness and preparedness. The use of digital media for emergency communication was also emphasized.
The meeting was told that a control room at the Deputy Commissioner’s office will operate round the clock in coordination with tehsil-level control rooms to ensure rapid response in case of emergencies.
