PESHAWAR, Jun 29 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) has expressed its profound concern over the alarming rise in reported incidents of violence against women and girls across the province.
The Commission strongly condemns all forms of gender-based violence, including domestic violence, rape, attempted sexual assault, child sexual abuse, harassment, kidnapping, unlawful detention, honour-related crimes, and all other violations of women’s fundamental rights. Such acts are unacceptable and must be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
Through its District Committees on the Status of Women (DCSWs), KPCSW continues to play a pivotal role in protecting women and girls by ensuring timely response to cases of gender-based violence, facilitating referrals, and maintaining close coordination with district administrations, law enforcement agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
During the past four weeks, the DCSWs handled sixteen (16) reported cases across the districts of Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Lower Dir, Tank, Khyber, Abbottabad, and Swat. These cases included domestic violence, rape, attempted sexual assault, child sexual abuse, kidnapping, harassment, unlawful detention, family disputes, and suspected murder.
The District Committees remained actively engaged with Deputy Commissioners, District Police Officers, hospitals, child protection authorities, Dar-ul-Aman, Social Welfare Department, and other concerned institutions to ensure timely interventions, registration of FIRs, victim protection, referrals, legal guidance, psychosocial support, family mediation where appropriate, and continuous follow-up of investigations to safeguard the rights of survivors.
Chairperson Dr Sumera Shams appreciated the dedicated efforts and commitment demonstrated by the District Committees on the Status of Women in responding promptly to reported cases despite challenging circumstances.
She reaffirmed KPCSW’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of women and girls and emphasized that the Commission will continue to closely monitor all reported incidents of violence, strengthen institutional coordination with relevant departments, and advocate for prompt investigations, accountability of perpetrators, and timely justice for survivors across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Commission urged all concerned institutions to discharge their responsibilities diligently and calls upon the public to report incidents of violence without fear so that timely protection and legal assistance can be provided.
KPCSW remains committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure a safer, more secure, and violence-free environment for women and girls throughout the province.
