PESHAWAR, Oct 05 (APP): Advisor to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam said on Monday that the provincial government had substantially increased allocations for police, security, internally displaced persons and the judiciary over the past three years.
He said the KP police budget had increased from Rs123.2 billion in 2024-25 to around Rs151 billion in 2025-26 and Rs173.8 billion in 2026-27, reflecting an increase of around 41 percent.
Muzzammil Aslam said Rs3.4 billion had been allocated for police arms and other procurement in 2024-25, against which actual expenditure reached Rs6.8 billion. The allocation was subsequently increased to Rs13 billion in 2025-26 and Rs14.52 billion in 2026-27.
He said Rs191.4 billion had been allocated for the KP police in the current financial year, accounting for around 8.8 percent of the provincial budget. Punjab had allocated around Rs213 billion, or 3.6 percent of its provincial budget, Sindh Rs198 billion, or 5.5 percent, and Balochistan Rs87.2 billion, or around 8 percent, he added.
The Finance Advisor said around 140,000 police personnel were currently serving in the province, with approximately one policeman for every 292 people, compared with around one for every 541 people in Punjab.
He said the government had also increased police salaries and allowances and enhanced compensation packages for families of police martyrs. A package of Rs11 million along with a plot was being provided to martyrs from constable to inspector ranks, Rs16 million for a DSP and up to Rs21 million for SP, SSP and DIG ranks.
Muzzammil Aslam said the police development budget had also witnessed a significant increase. Against an initial allocation of Rs12.7 billion for the current financial year, the revised allocation stood at around Rs22 billion, with approximately Rs21 billion already spent.
He said the provincial government had continued investment in police infrastructure, establishment of police stations, restructuring of the force and recruitment in the merged districts.
The Finance Advisor said the KP government had spent around Rs55 billion over the past few years on temporary displaced persons (TDPs) and victims affected by security operations. The expenditure stood at Rs3.9 billion in 2023-24, Rs4.6 billion in 2024-25 and Rs19.84 billion in 2025-26, while Rs17 billion had been allocated for 2026-27.
He said the government had continued supporting affected families through its available resources.
Muzzammil Aslam said an effective judicial system was also essential for maintaining security and law and order. He said the province had allocated Rs6 billion for judicial development during the current financial year.
He said the figures reflected the provincial government’s sustained focus on security, law and order, police development, support for affected families and strengthening of the justice system.
He added that increased financial resources would enable the province to further expand investment in security, merged districts, police, TDPs and the justice sector.
