KP IGP reviews security ahead of 9th Muharram processions; 50,000 personnel deployed province-wide

PESHAWAR, Jun 25 (APP):Inspector General of Police (GP), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed visited Sadar Bazaar and Hussainiya Hall Imambargah on Thursday to review security arrangements for 9th Muharram processions.
Accompanied by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Mian Muhammad Saeed and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Farhan, KP IGP received a detailed briefing on comprehensive security protocols.
He was informed that bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs had thoroughly cleared all procession routes, while police personnel had been deployed on surrounding buildings to maintain law and order.
Furthermore, a heavy police contingent has secured all internal and external entry points to Peshawar Sadar, with modern surveillance cameras monitoring entire area.
During his evaluation, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said that no negligence in security would be tolerated. He met with local elders and members of business community present at site, saying that their cooperation was vital for facilitating smooth operations and ensuring foolproof security for all Muharram gatherings.
To personally inspect the setup, IGP also visited the Cantonment Board Peshawar’s camera control room, where he monitored live security situation along procession routes.
Speaking to media representatives, IGP highlighted that Muharram-ul-Haram teached lessons of self sacrifice, saying that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police continued to make immense sacrifices to protect lives and property while combating terrorism from Fitnaul Kharij.
Underscoring scale of operation, he revealed that 50,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed across province, with 12,000 stationed in provincial capital of Peshawar.
