KP Govt reviews legal reforms, KP-China cultural centre proposal

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday reviewed a number of key legal, administrative and policy matters, including proposed amendments to development authority laws, the establishment of a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-China Cultural Centre, protection of forest resources and restructuring of the Civil Defence Department.

PESHAWAR, Jun 03 (APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday reviewed a number of key legal, administrative and policy matters, including proposed amendments to development authority laws, the establishment of a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-China Cultural Centre, protection of forest resources and restructuring of the Civil Defence Department.
The issues came under discussion at a meeting of the cabinet standing committee chaired by Provincial Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam.
Addressing the meeting, Aftab Alam said the provincial government was committed to promoting the rule of law, transparency and institutional reforms. He said matters of public importance would be resolved in accordance with the Constitution and legal requirements.
The committee examined recommendations regarding proposed amendments to the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Act 2017 and the Urban Areas Development Authority (UADA) Act 2020.
It also reviewed legal and administrative issues related to plot allotment policies in light of court rulings.
The meeting discussed a proposal for providing land for the establishment of a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-China Cultural Centre.
Participants were informed that the project would help strengthen cultural ties between Pakistan and China while creating new opportunities for educational and cultural activities in the province.
Relevant departments were directed to complete legal formalities and submit recommendations.
The committee also reviewed measures to prevent illegal timber extraction from forests in Chitral and Upper Kohistan.
Officials were directed to devise a comprehensive strategy, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure action against those involved in illegal logging.
Proposals for restructuring the Civil Defence Department were also discussed.
The committee emphasized the need to modernize the department’s administrative and financial systems to enhance its capacity to respond effectively to emergencies.
The meeting further reviewed financial matters related to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and the Peshawar Cantonment Board.
Officials informed the committee that efforts were underway to resolve pending issues through consultation.
The committee directed authorities to prepare a practical roadmap for the early settlement of outstanding matters in accordance with legal requirements and public interest.
The law minister instructed all concerned departments to ensure timely implementation of the committee’s decisions and recommendations to improve governance and public service delivery in the province.
