KP CM directs resolution of tobacco growers’ problems

PESHAWAR, Aug 31 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Monday directed the authorities to take urgent measures to address the problems being faced by tobacco growers in Buner, particularly the non-purchase of their ready crop.

A delegation of tobacco growers from Buner met with Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and briefed him in detail about the difficulties confronting them, including delays in the procurement of their produce.

The chief minister directed that a meeting be convened with the chairman of the Pakistan Tobacco Board to take up the growers’ concerns. He further instructed that two local representatives of tobacco growers be ensured participation in the meeting.

Sohail Afridi directed that the issue of timely procurement of the ready tobacco crop be resolved on an emergency basis. He also ordered that the matter of increasing the tobacco procurement quota be discussed at the relevant meeting.

He stressed that every possible step should be taken to expedite the procurement process and protect growers from potential financial losses.

The chief minister directed the authorities to take all possible measures to ensure the permanent resolution of tobacco growers’ problems.

“Protecting the rights of farmers is a priority of the government,” Afridi said, adding that amendments to the legal framework could also be considered if necessary.

He assured the Buner tobacco growers that the provincial government would extend all possible cooperation to resolve their problems.

“The provincial government is striving for sustainable solutions to public issues and is committed to investing in human development,” the chief minister said.

He added Government believed in finding sustainable solutions to the problems faced by the people.
