PESHAWAR, Sep 02 (APP):Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Wednesday gave in-principle approval for providing free electric scooters to female students and working women across the province.
Chairing a meeting on the proposed initiative, the CM directed the authorities to take immediate steps for launching the first phase of the scheme in Peshawar.
Under the first phase, female students and working women in the provincial capital will be provided electric scooters free of cost.
Officials briefed the meeting that beneficiaries would be selected through a computerized balloting process to ensure transparency and merit.
Afridi directed that a steering committee, technical working group and grievance redressal committee be notified immediately to oversee implementation of the scheme.
He also directed the provision of full funding for the initiative and said that the scheme would subsequently be extended to other districts of the province.
Sohail Afridi said the initiative would help empower women and enable them to become more independent by ensuring safe, convenient and affordable access to educational institutions and workplaces.
He said the environment-friendly electric scooters would also contribute to reducing air pollution while promoting women’s economic empowerment.
The CM said the provincial government would continue practical measures aimed at investing in people and promoting women’s development, confidence and empowerment.
