PESHAWAR, Jun 10 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed district administrations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen emergency preparedness measures ahead of a forecasted spell of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected from June 11 to 13.
According to Met office, the anticipated weather system is likely to bring widespread rainfall to several parts of the province, particularly the upper districts, where the risk of flash floods, landslides and disruption to transportation networks may increase.
PDMA has instructed district administrations to maintain close coordination with rescue and emergency services to ensure a timely response to any adverse situation.
The authority has advised local administrations to inspect vulnerable areas, clear drainage channels and ensure the readiness of machinery and personnel.
Rescue teams have also been placed on alert to deal with possible emergencies arising from heavy rain, strong winds or hailstorms.
PDMA warned thaf weather-related hazards could affect infrastructure, agricultural lands and public utilities, prompting officials to urge farmers and residents to take preventive measures.
It directed that attention should be given to mountainous regions where landslides and flooding in seasonal streams remain a concern during periods of intense rainfall.
The authority has also called for enhanced public awareness, advising citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and to remain cautious near rivers, streams and low-lying areas.
Tourists visiting scenic destinations have been urged to stay informed about weather forecasts and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
PDMA officials said continuous monitoring of the weather situation is underway and emergency response mechanisms have been activated to safeguard lives, property and critical infrastructure across the province.
