KP approves over Rs21bln development package for Orakzai, Karak

PESHAWAR, Jun 22 (APP):Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved large-scale development packages worth more than Rs21 billion for Orakzai and Karak under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026–27, with a focus on roads, healthcare, water resources and public safety infrastructure.
According to official details, over Rs18 billion has been allocated for Orakzai district, including Rs9.45 billion for road infrastructure projects aimed at improving inter-district connectivity and blacktopping roads in remote areas.
The package also includes the establishment of a Rescue 1122 sub-station in Tehsil Ismailzai along with additional staffing to strengthen emergency response services.
Under the Safe City programme, security infrastructure in Orakzai and other merged districts will also be expanded through a combined allocation of Rs1.78 billion to improve surveillance and law enforcement capacity.
A major water sector project, the Rs7.4 billion Khan Mir Khel Dam, has been included in the development plan to enhance irrigation facilities, agricultural output and water storage capacity.
For Karak district, the provincial government has approved a separate Rs3 billion package prioritising healthcare, road rehabilitation and water supply schemes.
Key initiatives include an Rs800 million Safe Blood Transfusion Centre aimed at improving emergency medical services, along with road improvement projects including the Chamba–Ali Khel Chowk Road and other connecting routes.
Water resource schemes, including Pail Dam and Ali Khel Dam, have also been incorporated into the package to strengthen irrigation systems and support agricultural productivity.
Officials said the development initiatives reflect the provincial government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, public services and regional connectivity in underdeveloped districts, with implementation expected to begin during the upcoming fiscal year.
