PESHAWAR, Aug 07 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman on Friday called for a coordinated provincial campaign against cervical cancer, saying greater awareness, early diagnosis and wider HPV vaccination coverage could protect thousands of women from a disease that is largely preventable.
Addressing an orientation session for District Health Officers and District Education Officers (Female) in Peshawar, he stressed the need for close coordination between the health and education departments to expand preventive services for women and adolescent girls.
The minister said the government was integrating awareness campaigns with screening and HPV vaccination to improve early detection and reduce the burden of the disease.
He described women’s health as a key priority of the provincial government, saying greater investment in preventive healthcare would save lives and strengthen the healthcare system.
The session also reviewed strategies to enhance community outreach, public awareness and institutional coordination for the effective implementation of the province’s cervical cancer prevention programme.
