The event will be arranged by the Department of Urdu at Hazara University and will take place at Jinnah Hall, says a press release here Thursday.
The conference aims to pay tribute to the life, personality, and literary legacy of the celebrated poet, whose work continues to influence Urdu literature.
Prominent poets, writers, scholars, and literary figures from across the country will participate in the day long conference.
Speakers will present research papers and critical analyses of Kasir’s poetry and literary achievements, while discussing his lasting impact on Urdu literature. A multilingual Mushaira (poetry recital) will also be held in his memory.
Born on September 4, 1944, in Peharpur, Dera Ismail Khan, Ghulam Muhammad Kasir passed away in Peshawar on February 20, 1999, at the age of 54, leaving millions of his fans sad.
Kasir was first introduced to the wider literary world by legendary poet Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi through his renowned literary journal Fanoon in 1977. He later emerged as a prominent figure in national Mushairas and literary programs broadcast on television and radio.
Kasir skillfully blended traditional and modern poetic elements, creating a distinctive style that set him apart from any particular literary school of thought.
His poetry reflected profound intellectual depth, rich imagination, and a keen awareness of social realities.
Holding a Master’s degree in Urdu literature, Kasir received numerous literary honours, including the prestigious President’s Pride of Performance Award.
He authored five collections of poetry and wrote several memorable Urdu dramas for Pakistan Television (PTV). He also represented Pakistan at literary conferences and seminars in the United States and other countries.
Speaking to APP, Professor Dr. Naveed Farooq of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan said that despite being born in a remote area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kasir made a remarkable contribution to Urdu literature through his romantic poetry and insightful reflections on social issues and presented solutions.
He described Ghulam Muhammad Kasir as a powerful voice in Urdu poetry who introduced new dimensions to poetic expression and artistic craftsmanship.
According to him, Kasir excelled in both poetry and prose, leaving a lasting imprint on Urdu literary traditions in Pakistan.
Dr. Naveed reiterated that despite his towering stature in literary circles, Ghulam Muhammad Kasir maintained a humble personality.
He attributed the poet’s enduring influence to his simple yet powerful language and his ability to articulate public concerns in a unique and compelling style.
“Kasir had the rare ability to explain complex situations in simple language. His mastery of expression and poetry art earned him widespread recognition and popularity in Urdu literary circles in Pakistan,” he said.
He added that Kasir remained deeply aware of the challenges facing society and consistently reflected those realities in his work.
His writings continue to inspire young authors and poets, encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to Urdu literature.
Dr. Naveed further observed that Ghulam Muhammad Kasir created rare and enduring literary images in Urdu poetry and that young writers could learn a great deal from his artistic legacy.
He emphasized that literary figures of Kasir’s stature deserve continued recognition for their role in shaping social values and intellectual thought that will continue to inspire people.
