Governor KPK stresses character-building alongside modern education
LAHORE, Aug 27 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday stressed the need for establishing educational institutions that impart modern education to the next generation while also focusing on character building.
Addressing the Minhaj-ul-Quran University’s Convocation 2026 at Expo Centre Lahore, the governor said education was the key to national development and Pakistan needed to promote both modern sciences and Islamic studies.
He lauded the educational services of Sheikh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, saying Minhaj-ul-Quran University was serving the country by providing modern education alongside religious studies. He noted that many graduates of the university were serving in various national institutions.
Faisal Kundi said the College of Shariah and Islamic Sciences was established at the university in 1984, adding that the institution was now offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in modern disciplines as well as higher Islamic studies.
He emphasised that educational institutions should promote science, technology and research alongside religious education. He said the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership had always regarded promotion of education as a foundation for national progress.
The governor said the relationship between the Pakistan Peoples Party and Minhaj-ul-Quran was based on intellectual harmony and equality rather than being merely personal or formal. He recalled that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had appreciated Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri’s scholarly services and had also remained a life member of Tehreek Minhaj-ul-Quran.
He said Pakistan was passing through a difficult and challenging period, but there was no reason for despair. He urged citizens to collectively counter false propaganda and play their role in strengthening national unity and harmony.
He said ignorance, extremism, hatred and intolerance should be confronted through knowledge, awareness and reason. Islam, he added, was a religion of peace and love, and its message of peace and harmony should be promoted to help address challenges such as terrorism.
Addressing the graduating students, the governor urged them not to restrict their education to personal development but to use their knowledge for nation-building, serving humanity and promoting positive action.
He congratulated the graduating students, particularly the gold medalists, and their parents. Earlier, he distributed prizes and certificates among the gold medalists.
Later, the university presented Faisal Kundi with a commemorative shield.
