PESHAWAR, Jun 18 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday welcomed the historic “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran through the efforts of Pakistan’s political and military leadership, describing it as a major diplomatic achievement for peace, stability, and regional cooperation.
In a statement, Governor Kundi praised President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for their role in facilitating the agreement.
He said Pakistan has consistently advocated for peace, stability, and constructive diplomacy in the region, and its efforts deserve appreciation.
The Governor said the signing of the agreement by the leadership of both countries demonstrates that even the most complex disputes can be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and diplomatic engagement rather than conflict.
He said that the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the maritime blockade would help ease regional tensions while positively impacting global trade, energy supplies, and economic stability.
Governor Kundi also appreciated the efforts of US President Donald J. Trump, the Iranian leadership, and the negotiating teams of both countries for adopting a wise and peaceful approach.
He further acknowledged the diplomatic contributions of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, saying that lasting peace can only be achieved through regional cooperation and collective efforts.
Expressing optimism, Faisal Karim Kundi said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding would mark the beginning of a new era of mutual respect, confidence-building, and shared prosperity, laying a strong foundation for lasting peace and development for future generations.
