PESHAWAR, Sep 16 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday strongly condemned the reported attempt by the Houthis to target Makkah, saying the sanctity and security of Islam’s holy sites were of utmost importance for every Muslim.
In a statement, the Governor said the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia must be respected, adding that no compromise could be made on the protection of the holy sites.
He said that under the Makkah Defence Agreement, all member states stood united and possessed the capability to deliver a strong and effective response to safeguard the holy places. He added that any attempt to target Makkah would be met with a firm response.
Governor Kundi said the Muslim world was united on the issue of protecting the holy sites, stressing that all parties should play a responsible role to ensure peace and stability in the region and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions.
He said the protection of Makkah and other holy sites was a shared responsibility of the entire Muslim Ummah and a matter deeply connected with the religious sentiments of Muslims.
