PESHAWAR, Nov 06 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday directed the concerned authorities to expedite construction of the Jamil Chowk underpass on Peshawar’s Ring Road to ease traffic congestion and facilitate commuters.
During his visit to the under-construction project, the governor reviewed the pace of work and received a detailed briefing from the Director General of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) on its progress and ongoing construction activities.
Adviser on Local Government Asif Rafiq, Adviser on Education Dr Amir Abdullah and other officials accompanied him.
Talking to the media, Faisal Karim Kundi said the timely completion of the underpass would improve traffic flow and provide relief to commuters.
He said the government also planned to address traffic problems at busy locations across Peshawar, including University Road, through underpasses and other necessary infrastructure projects. Work on these projects would begin after approval from the relevant departments, he added.
The governor said he personally visited the site to assess construction progress and review the difficulties faced by the public. He also assured that the Northern Bypass project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
He urged citizens to voluntarily remove encroachments, saying no one had the right to occupy government land. He added that action against encroachments was continuing without discrimination.
Faisal Karim Kundi thanked the federal government for providing a Rs160 billion relief package for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the province’s water-related issues had also been effectively raised with the federal government and acknowledged by it.
He said maintaining peace and eliminating terrorism remained the government’s top priorities.
The governor also stressed the need for an effective accountability system, saying institutional reforms were not possible without a proper system of accountability and reward and punishment.
