GIKI, IRADA join hands to promote indigenous technology and innovation

The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) and the Indigenous Research and Development Agency (IRADA) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen indigenous research, innovation and technology development in Pakistan.

PESHAWAR, Aug 20 (APP): The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) and the Indigenous Research and Development Agency (IRADA) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen indigenous research, innovation and technology development in Pakistan.
The agreement seeks to foster joint research and development in emerging and strategic fields, including chip design and verification, artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), energy systems and advanced manufacturing, said a press release.
The collaboration will also facilitate technology commercialization and transfer, training programmes, internships, student research and access to shared research facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, IRADA Managing Director Umar Rashid emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between research institutions and universities to develop locally designed digital technologies and microcontroller-based products.
GIKI Rector Professor Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said the partnership would help align the institute’s engineering and research expertise with national technological priorities and contribute to industrial growth.
The initiative is aimed at creating stronger links among academia, researchers, engineers and industry to accelerate Pakistan’s transition from a technology consumer to a technology developer.
