The Excise Intelligence Bureau of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has carried out the largest anti-narcotics operation in the department’s history, recovering approximately one ton (960 kilograms) of narcotics in Peshawar.
Excise Intelligence Bureau seizes one ton of narcotics
PESHAWAR, Sep 21 (APP):The Excise Intelligence Bureau of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has carried out the largest anti-narcotics operation in the department’s history, recovering approximately one ton (960 kilograms) of narcotics in Peshawar.
The seized narcotics include 18 maunds (720 kilograms) of hashish and 6 maunds (240 kilograms) of opium.
The operation was conducted under the special anti-narcotics campaign launched in accordance with the zero-tolerance policy of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi and the directives of Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan.
According to details obtained from the Excise Department, Provincial In-charge of the Excise Intelligence Bureau, Aakif Nawaz Khan, received confidential information regarding the movement of narcotics.
Acting on the intelligence, three special Excise Intelligence teams were deployed in Peshawar around midnight.
During a checkpoint operation near Jahaz Chowk, the teams signaled a suspicious Toyota Revo to stop. However, instead of stopping, the driver attempted to flee at high speed and opened fire on the Excise personnel.
During the pursuit, the vehicle collided with other vehicles and roadside structures, sustaining significant damage.
The Excise teams continued the chase and eventually intercepted the Toyota Revo bearing registration number SB-5069 (Sindh) on Double Road near Peshawar Ring Road. The driver, however, continued firing at the Excise personnel and managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The vehicle was subsequently shifted to the Excise Police Station (EPS), Peshawar, where a search resulted in the recovery of 720 kilograms of hashish and 240 kilograms of opium.
A case has been registered at the Excise Police Station, Peshawar. Further legal proceedings and investigation are underway to apprehend the fugitive accused and identify other individuals involved in the incident.
Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan described the operation by the Excise Intelligence Bureau as a major achievement and commended the team for its successful action.
He said that, under the leadership of the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there would be no compromise on the government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
He said the historic operation by the Excise Intelligence Bureau sends a clear message to drug traffickers that there is no place for them in the province.
The minister further stated that protecting the younger generation from the menace of drugs remains the government’s foremost priority.
He said that individuals and organized networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade would not be able to evade the law, adding that operations against drug trafficking would continue until narcotics are eliminated from the province.
The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening intelligence-based operations against narcotics smuggling and the illegal drug trade across the province.
