ABBOTTABAD, May 12 (APP): The educational future of more than 300 students at COMSATS University Abbottabad and Islamabad campuses Tuesday has come under threat after the Workers Welfare Board (WWB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa allegedly failed to release scholarship funds worth Rs. 200 million for several months.
According to sources, the pending amount relates to scholarships for children of factory workers studying in engineering and other disciplines under the WWB educational support program. The delay has reportedly created severe financial difficulties for the university administration.
Sources said the university has been managing hostel and food expenses of the affected students through its own limited resources. The delay in payment has also affected examinations, results, and admissions for the upcoming semester.
Students accused WWB officials of using delaying tactics and warned of protests if the scholarship funds were not released immediately. They said demonstrations could be held both on campus and outside the provincial assembly.
Parents said they belong to low-income families and cannot continue their children’s education without scholarship assistance. The affected students and parents have appealed to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to immediately release the pending funds and resolve the issue.
