DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sep 08 (APP):Customs authorities here on Tuesday destroyed drugs, substandard and hazardous goods worth Rs375 million seized in various operations and stored at the State Warehouse Ratta Kalachi.
Additional Collector Customs Enforcement Peshawar Amanat Khan was the chief guest at the destruction ceremony. Deputy Collector Sajid Khan of the Anti-Smuggling Division, Dera Ismail Khan, and officials of other relevant departments were also present.
According to customs officials, 77 lots of seized goods from the customs state warehouses in D.I. Khan and Kohat were destroyed. The items included substandard, expired, unfit-for-human-consumption and banned products.
The destroyed goods included 12,872kg of betel nuts valued at Rs15 million, 66,952 sleeves of cigarettes worth Rs300 million, and 25,020kg of Chinese salt (Ajinomoto) valued at Rs10 million. Miscellaneous items, including Indian medicines, gutka and naswar, were valued at around Rs50 million.
The officials said the destruction was carried out in accordance with the prescribed procedure under complete transparency and supervision.
They said the measure was aimed at ensuring that the seized and hazardous goods did not find their way back into the market for sale or consumption.
