A Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) constable was martyred and three others injured when security personnel exchanged fire with terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Garhi Sherdad area of Warsak Road here on Thursday, while one terrorist was killed in the encounter.

PESHAWAR, Sep 24 (APP): A Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) constable was martyred and three others injured when security personnel exchanged fire with terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Garhi Sherdad area of Warsak Road here on Thursday, while one terrorist was killed in the encounter.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence about the presence of three suicide attackers in Peshawar who were reportedly planning to target a sensitive installation.
According to the CTD release, its teams, along with district police and personnel of an intelligence agency, moved into the area after intelligence inputs and technical analysis indicated the presence of the suspected terrorists.
The security personnel cordoned off the area and used a drone for aerial surveillance. During the operation, one of the terrorists reached a rooftop and opened fire on the CTD personnel while attempting to flee, triggering an exchange of fire.
CTD Constable Muhammad Afaq was martyred during the encounter, while three other CTD personnel sustained injuries. The security forces subsequently killed the terrorist.
A search and clearance operation was underway to locate the two remaining terrorists, while additional security personnel had been deployed in the area. The search had also been expanded to avert any possible threat.
IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hamid and the Additional IG CTD commended the successful operation against the terrorists.
