Commissioner reviews restoration work at historic Islamia College Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Jul 03 (APP): Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, on Friday paid a late-night visit to Islamia College Peshawar to review the progress of restoration and beautification work being carried out under the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase II.
According to an official statement issued by the Commissioner’s Office, the commissioner met the university’s vice chancellor and received a detailed briefing from officials on the ongoing renovation, heritage restoration, and installation of modern architectural lighting.
Officials informed him that the project was progressing rapidly while preserving the institution’s original architectural character and was expected to be completed within the next 48 hours.
Expressing satisfaction over the pace and quality of work, Riaz Khan Mehsud directed the relevant departments to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeframe and to maintain high construction standards so the project could be inaugurated at the earliest by the Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said Islamia College Peshawar was not only an educational institution but also a symbol of the province’s academic, cultural, and historical identity.
He said preserving and restoring the historic landmark remained a government priority to safeguard its heritage for future generations.
He added that the new architectural lighting under the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase II would further enhance the college’s historic grandeur and make it more attractive for domestic and international tourists, students, researchers, and visitors.
He also noted that the restoration of Islamia College forms part of a broader initiative to conserve Peshawar’s historic buildings, archaeological sites, and cultural heritage.
