CM condemns DI Khan attack, announces additional resources for police

PESHAWAR, Sep 26 (APP): Chief Minister (CM) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Saturday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan and expressed grief over the loss of life of security personnel and civilians.

In a video message, the CM said security personnel and civilians continued to bear the brunt of terrorism and stressed the need for sustained efforts to establish lasting peace in the province.

He said the KP government was taking all possible measures within its capacity to strengthen the security apparatus and combat terrorism.

Afridi said the provincial government had provided an additional Rs 35 billion to the police during 2025-26 by reallocating funds from its development budget. The additional resources, he said, were being used for modern weapons, equipment and police infrastructure.

He said the police budget had been increased to Rs191 billion in the financial year 2026-27, describing it as a 103 per cent increase.

The CM said the KP police were on the frontline in the fight against terrorism and stressed that the required equipment and resources should be provided without further delay.

He said the provincial government had also submitted a provincial action plan for improving the security situation and expressed its readiness to implement measures aimed at strengthening peace and security.

Afridi said thousands of security personnel and civilians had lost their lives in the fight against terrorism over the years, stressing that every victim was a family member whose loss caused lasting pain.

He said the government would continue working to prevent further loss of life and protect citizens and security personnel from terrorist attacks.

The CM said Pakistan was facing serious security and economic challenges and called for collective and sustained efforts to address the security situation.

He said the KP government would continue to strengthen police capacity, improve security infrastructure and take measures necessary for protecting the lives and property of the people.
