PESHAWAR, Aug 20 (APP): A delegation of Christian community on Thursday called on Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati to discuss various aspects of Christian Marriage Act.
Chairman Minority Caucus and Member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Askar Parvez along with other relevant representatives attended the meeting. Secretary KP Assembly Syed Wiqar Shah and Principal Secretary to Speaker Mian Sareer were also present.
The meeting focused on expediting the legal and constitutional process of Christian Marriage Act and facilitating its early passage through KP assembly. It was told that bill is currently with local government department and after clearance it would be forwarded to law department and subsequently placed before the cabinet for approval.
The meeting also agreed that representatives of Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal and other Christian denominations would again be invited in standing committee stage to provide their proposals and views.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati emphasized that the legislative process would be taken forward in consultation with all relevant stakeholders and in light of their final recommendations with the aim of ensuring the effective and comprehensive passage of Christian Marriage Act through KP assembly.
