PESHAWAR, Jun 13 (APP): The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on June 15 to sight the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 Hijri and determine the beginning of the new Islamic year.
According to an official announcement, the meeting will be chaired by Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and held at Iqbal Hall, Badshahi Mosque, Lahore.
The committee will review moon-sighting testimonies received from across the country before making an official announcement.
Meanwhile, astronomical forecasts suggest that the chances of sighting the Muharram moon on Monday, June 15, are low. The moon is expected to be visible on Tuesday, June 16, which could result in 1st Muharram-ul-Haram falling on June 17.
However, the final decision regarding the commencement of Muharram will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee following verification of moon-sighting reports.
