BDA seeks timely release of development funds

The Bannu Development Authority (BDA) has urged timely release of development funds, saying additional resources could significantly accelerate development and public service delivery in Bannu Township.

BANNU, Aug 19 (APP): The Bannu Development Authority (BDA) has urged timely release of development funds, saying additional resources could significantly accelerate development and public service delivery in Bannu Township.
BDA Project Director Yousaf Haroon said the authority had not received a regular provincial government grant since 2017 and was currently managing its expenditures and development activities through its own revenue.
He said the authority had an ADP portfolio of Rs344 million, but only around Rs40 million had been released against it during the last four years. Another Rs277 million has been proposed for road infrastructure.
He said Rs10 million released to the BDA during 2022-23 under the provincial scheme for strengthening district development authorities had been utilized for development-related activities, including the purchase of two vehicles and drainage works.
Yousaf Haroon said Rs10 million had also been sanctioned for construction of a retaining wall, with around 30 percent of the work completed.
He said the authority was continuing to improve public facilities despite financial constraints, including provision of benches, shaded areas and washrooms in parks besides plantation and cleanliness measures.
During an online public hearing, residents raised issues related to electricity transformers, drainage, park cleanliness and maintenance of plants. Several complaints were resolved on the spot, while concerned officials were directed to address other issues.
