PESHAWAR, Sep 08 (APP):In the rural areas near Ziarat Kaka Sahib in district Nowshera, cases of chikungunya has reported in an outbreak-like form where health authorities have confirmed 14 positive cases of the mosquito-borne viral disease.
According to the District Health Officer (DHO) on Tuesday, four villages, including Spin Kane, have been affected by the outbreak. Authorities are taking measures to contain the spread of the disease.
The situation became concerning after chikungunya cases were reported in Spin Kane Village Council near Ziarat Kaka Sahib, triggering fear and concern among local residents.
The DHO said that 280 suspected cases have so far been reported in the area, of which 14 have tested positive for chikungunya.
Teams from the Khyber Medical University (KMU), including laboratory personnel along with teams from the Directorate General of Health Services visited the affected area to assess the situation and help control the outbreak.
The teams inspected mosquito breeding and spread in the area and collected samples from suspected patients for laboratory testing.
Meanwhile, the district administration and District Health Office Nowshera have launched mosquito-control activities, including spraying in the affected areas and other preventive measures to contain the spread of chikungunya.
