KP Minister, IGP discuss operations against narcotics, ice drug

PESHAWAR, Jul 20 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan, called on the Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, at his office on Monday.
During the meeting, both sides held a detailed discussion on strengthening anti-narcotics efforts across the province, with particular focus on curbing the alarming spread of the deadly drug ice among the youth.
The discussion also covered enhanced coordination between the Excise Department and Police through joint operations, intelligence sharing, and an effective enforcement strategy.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan said that, on the directives of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a special campaign of public Open Courts (Khuli Katcheries) has been launched in various districts to protect society, especially the younger generation, from the menace of narcotics and to hear public grievances directly.
He stated that district-level field visits, public interactions, and Open Courts would continue on a regular basis to incorporate public feedback and further strengthen the province’s anti-narcotics strategy.
The Minister said that drug traffickers, particularly those involved in the trade of ice, are enemies of society and the youth, and no leniency will be shown towards them.
He added that the Excise Department has been directed to work in close coordination with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to launch indiscriminate, stringent, and decisive operations against such elements to dismantle and eliminate the criminal networks involved in this heinous trade.
He further said that the provincial government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and that no individual or group endangering the future of the younger generation would be allowed to escape the law. Operations against mafias involved in the trafficking of Ice and all other forms of narcotics will continue with full determination and the full force of the law.
Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan also expressed the hope for continued close cooperation from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
In response, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed assured him of the Police Department’s full support and reaffirmed its commitment to working jointly with the Excise Department through coordinated strategies and effective operations to eradicate the menace of narcotics from the province.
