Summit seeks justice for women’ continual struggle for dignity in IIOJK

MIRPUR  ( AJK)   , Feb 24 (APP):The Institute of Dialogue, Development and Diplomatic Studies, in collaboration with PGD College MUST Campus, Tuesday hosted a Female Youth Interactive Summit titled “Kunan Poshpora – From Mourning to Mobilization” at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Palandri, Poonch division, AJK.
The summit witnessed an impressive participation of young women, alongside faculty members and representatives of civil society, the organizers  told APP on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Nimra from Mirpur University of Science and Technology emphasized the crucial role of young women in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) at a time when a significant portion of Kashmir remains under Indian occupation.
She highlighted that the women of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) continued to endure humiliation and violence under occupational forces.
Referring to the tragic incident of Kunan Poshpora, she described it as a heinous crime against humanity and urged young scholars to raise awareness about the stark difference between freedom in Azad Kashmir and life under occupation, where the dignity of Kashmiri women had repeatedly been violated.
She stressed that the young women of AJK must actively counter the propaganda of occupational forces by effectively using modern tools—particularly media and social media—to amplify the voices of oppressed women in occupied Kashmir and bring global attention to their suffering.
Inamul Haq, former Federal Secretary, presented detailed evidence-based data regarding the Kunan Poshpora case.
He noted that when occupation stretched its limits, the answer lied in a strong, stable, and powerful Pakistan capable of raising the issue at international forums.
He underlined that the honor and dignity of women were paramount in every society and religion, and crimes against Kashmiri women must be placed firmly on the global human rights agenda.
He recalled that an FIR was lodged at Trehgam Police Station and that medical reports substantiated the case.
The matter reached the High Court; however, accountability remained elusive against the 4th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles. Following 5 August 2019, the case has further stagnated under what speakers termed an intensified environment of state control.
Prof. Masood Khan, Principal of PGD College and author of nine books, stated that it is the responsibility of the younger generation to build intellectual capacity and utilize contemporary academic and digital tools to expose aggression against Kashmiri women.
He urged young literary voices in Azad Kashmir to carry forward the Kunan Poshpora case as a research study, deconstructing it through legal, humanitarian, and gender-based frameworks, and presenting it before various UN bodies and international human rights mechanisms.
Dr. Waleed Rasool emphasized that the women of Azad Kashmir were uniquely positioned to understand and articulate the pain of Kashmiri women living under occupation.
He highlighted the fundamental difference between freedom and occupation: while citizens in Azad Kashmir enjoyed the right to life, liberty, and property, women in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir face constant fear and uncertainty amid heavy militarization.
He called for unity of thought and collective response at multiple levels—academic, diplomatic, media, and civil society—to bring international attention to the issue.
The summit concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, reflecting the intellectual commitment and emotional resolve of the participating young women.
